Stem Cell Therapy

How does Stem Cell Therapy work?

Stem Cell Therapy is a new cutting-edge approach to treating orthopedic injuries by leveraging your body’s natural healing powers. APMI Orthopaedic & Sports Health medical professionals are using stem cells to treat conditions like osteoarthritis, tendon and muscle injuries to potentially deliver long-lasting pain relief.

Am I a good candidate for Stem Cell therapy?

No joint is immune to damage or age-related wear, and every joint is a potential candidate for stem cell therapy. Your APMI physician can determine if you’re a good candidate for stem cell therapy after a thorough review of your medical history and a physical examination.

You may be a candidate for stem cell therapy if you suffer from conditions such as:

  • Tendonitis

  • Tendon Tear

  • Joint pain

  • Neck pain

  • Back pain

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Labral or meniscal tears

How are stem

cells obtained?

The human body keeps a reserve of stem cells available to help repair injured and degenerated tissues. It is safe to retrieve them for therapeutic purposes. Stem cells remain in reserve, in the marrow cavity of your bones and fat collection. Typically the easiest place to harvest these stem cells is from the back of the hip area (iliac bone) & abdominal fat.

What to Expect during a Stem Cell Procedure

This minimally invasive procedure is done under local anesthesia. First, with or without sedation your bone marrow or fat will be harvested. The aspirate is then prepared to extract stem cells. Ultrasound will be used for precision and accuracy. In the second part of the procedure, your APMI provider re-injects your stem cells into the treatment area using ultrasound for precision and accuracy.
